The below video by Nem Australasia (2016) describes of employee engagement and its impact on workforce performance. It also identifies five drivers in the form of Empowerment, aligning to business strategy, Team collaboration, Opportunities and Fair Recognition, that an organization can focus on to improve employee engagement.

Robert Half UK (2017), a UK based recruitment-based company sees valued, motivated and engaged employees are happy at work and a happy workforce will always have a positive contribution to the organization.

On the other hand, below is a good example of how modern technology can be applied to enhance employee engagement.  IBM Watson Talent, (2014) speaks of how Slumberland Furniture, a US-based furniture retailer has made use of data analytics and AI technologies in the form of IBM WebSphere Portal and IBM's Smarter Workforce Solutions to process data and use them to enhance employee engagement, resulting in high organizational performance.

  1. Hi Kanchana, I would like to mention that in today's digital era, a lot of the engagement happens outside of the traditional offices (Lombardy, 2015). This is mainly due to all the people at retail, travel, hospitality and banking working on the go or interacting directly with customers. Hence, reaching those employees through their mobile devices has become the go-to method to engage with them in real-time and maintain two way communication in spite of the geography (Lombardy, 2015).

Cascio and Montealegre (2016)'s research paints a very vivid picture on the impact of technology on work and organizations, highlighting the need to recognize wearable computing/digital devices and mobiles as prominent 'competitors' for an individual's attention.
